Scientific publishing is undergoing profound changes in a short space of time, due to the concentration and dominance of major Anglo-Saxon groups, the rise of generative artificial intelligence, and open access. Against this backdrop, what does the future hold for French-language journals? Aurélien Rouquet, professor at NEOMA Business School and editor-in-chief of the Revue française de Gestion, and Thomas Parisot, deputy CEO of Cairn.info and president of the French Information Professionals Association (GF2I), discuss the challenges and opportunities facing this ecosystem.

French-language scientific journals are unique in the research landscape: they embody a diversity of knowledge and languages that contributes to the influence of Francophone thought, whilst facing growing pressure in favour of English-language publications and economic models dominated by a handful of major international players.

In this 30-minute interview (in French), Thomas Parisot and Aurélien Rouquet discuss the specific characteristics of the Francophone publishing model, strategies for preserving the independence and scientific quality of academic publications, and the economic and technological levers for enhancing the visibility and sustainability of these journals.

This discussion builds on the mission pursued by Cairn.info alongside all its publishing partners: to promote the discovery of high-quality French-language research within a diverse and independent knowledge ecosystem.
