Metadata and full-text translation allows a growing number of non-French-speaking users to consult recent issues of leading Francophone journals in the humanities and social sciences.
Concept
Since its inception in 2005, Cairn.info has worked to improve the dissemination and visibility of Francophone publishing in the humanities and social sciences.
Enabling leading French-language journals and publishing houses to gain greater international recognition quickly became a significant goal. To better cater to non-French-speaking readers, in 2014 Cairn.info launched an entirely English platform, Cairn International Edition, with the support of the Centre National du Livre (CNL; National Book Center). From 2017 onward, backing was also provided by the Centre français d’exploitation du droit de copie (CFC; French Center for Copyright Exploitation). In 2021, with continued support from the CFC, Cairn.info introduced Cairn Mundo Plural, targeting Spanish-speaking audiences.
